How We Address Ourselves

There was an interesting Malay drama on TV last night that I watched - for a while - and although the actors and actresses were acting well enough, I was more amused with the scriptwriters talent :

Leading character named Danish talking to his wife, Irish : "Irish tak masak untuk Danish, Danish tak berkira. Irish that kemaskan rumah, Danish that berkira.."

For one thing, names like Danish and Irish are really too fanciful, don't you think?

I do know that the name "Danish" for male is becoming quite popular these days. But I wonder if the normally macho Rosyam Nor was gritting his teeth with having to call himself "Danish" hundred of times - since his scriptwriter dictates that he cannot address himself as "Saya", "Aku" or even "I".

Now, this culture of calling oneself with one's own name is something which I don't understand.

Imagine me talking to Aunty J :

"Aunty J, don't forget that Aunty J owe Jewelle a treat at Coffee Bean, Starbucks and Anjappar this December. Otherwise, next time Jewelle will not share tips on sponsored post with Aunty J anymore."

What's wrong with using "I" or "You"?

Weird.

2 - That's really annoying. I mean, why want to say extra syllable when we can just use I, you, she, he, we, they?

3 - Gallivanter thinks that Jewelle makes perfect sense with this. Gallivanter believes that this is utter nonsense and knows that Jewelle will agree. (Comment this)

4 - I never liked Malay movies/tv shows. They get on my nerves all the time.

It's either they refer each other with their names, they tend to have all this big pangkat in their shows. Datuk lah, Tan Sri la.. And then at home pun wear makeup tebal-tebal! >:(

Eeee.. cannot tahan! (Comment this)

9 - Yenjai : It's definitely a culture I think - been hearing this for years!

Nonnie : And so tongue-twisting some more!

Gallivanter : Utter nonsense!

Cindy : Now, that's another one that I don't like - this obsession with titled names! Of course, the makeup artist was just trying to finish her makeup set so can buy some more, thats why :-)

Aunty J : Tiada! Sia mau Coffee Bean jugak :-P

Eshark : Ha, she's not my aunty, but I will let her know :-)

G-Ferro : Ex-young ones, that's good.

Ann : Annoying! Ha!
